Cathedral Canyon is at mile 47 on the east shore of Lake Powell roughly halfway between Rainbow Bridge and Dangling Rope Marina. Its mouth is directly opposite Driftwood Canyon. Cathedral Canyon once possessed a series of wonderful alcove undercuts along its streambed. The lofty, overhanging walls gave it the atmosphere of an ancient cathedral. Today, only a modest bay is prelude to a narrow channel tapering into shadowy slots.
Cathedral Butte towers over 1,300 feet (396 meters) above its western shore. Sheer walls in the last half of the canyon preclude camping.
